Christian Blogs
I’ve spent a good portion of the night surfing through many Christian blogs. I was surprised to find that there are many blogs out there that have set up an online ministry. It seems as though everyone is a Billy Graham as soon as they get a blog. I’ll have to admit after looking back through some of my posts, I am guilty of this sometimes as well. Is this really what the world needs, another minister? Or do they need to relate. I know I am. I’m looking for someone that is going through the same struggles that I am. I’m also looking for someone that’s already been there, so they can guide me to the right path. Where are these blogs? Where are the Christian blogs that make mistakes, sometimes give in to temptation, get angry, and admit they aren’t perfect? How can we build relationships as bloggers, when the platform is the internet equivalent of a podium?
Mind if I quote you on that over at blogs4God …
“It seems as though everyone is a Billy Graham as soon as they get a blog.”
So right on the mark.
Of course I don’t mind, but I don’t want to discourage anyone from writing entries about God in their blog. The fact that they regurgitate what they heard in church on Sunday instead of their personal experiences is the main problem I see. Blogs, at their core, are designed to be about everyday experiences.
I’d agree that some Christian bloggers might be overzealous in their quest to evangelize the web, and in doing so may turn away some people who are tired of being preached at. On the other hand, the blogosphere is an awesome medium for getting the message out. In fact, if GodBlogCon holds a 2006 event, I hope to attend (see http://godblogcon.com/blog/). I happen to run an online ministry (http://www.prayway.com), but it’s completely seperate from my blog. I call my blog “Ugly” to show that Christians can have a normal life and a normal blog which doesn’t necessarily have to revolve around theological discussions and arguments about hot button issues.
There’s a fine line between the “holier than thou” feeling that non-Christians get around us, and the Christian hypocrite that does what they want on everyday but Sunday. I think the Holy Spirit helps everyone define that line though if they really looked within themselves.
Not all Christian blogs are holier-than-thou or aggressively evanglelistic. As a Christian, I must presume that my own blog is “Christian” but I do not shout it from the rooftops. Nor do I hide my Christianity (try my post http://www.madtv.me.uk/goneaway.aspx?BlogID=177). What I write is a product of my Christisanity, not propaganda.
There are other fine Christian writers blogging too. Have a look at http://bothworlds.typepad.com/both_worlds/ and http://www.brokenmessenger.com/ .
Anything that is an outlet for Christians or those seeking is definitely a good thing! We are still human and have the same feelings and emotions as those who aren’t saved.
What I love about being a Christian is the sense of security and being less worried about lifes problems, little or big. We have a heavenly Father to turn to in any situation and a brother that died for us!! Now does that make my heart sing when I spend time thinking about it!
And we know where we’re going when this life is over, and the state of the world suggests it could be sooner than later!!
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
If you check either page that you can link to from my name, you will see that i do not give to much mention to the miracle that saved my life and my future soul.
I intend to change that, and to put more Christian content into my pages. One deals with addictions, tyhe other to injustices in the penal system.
I would love it if you can recommend some sites I should look at,and a ministry or two I should join.
I realilize this is not much to go on,but if you reply with a visit then an email,we can explore it further.
I am guilty of hiding my feelings for fear of being reject in some circles, and as of yet,I have no circle to turn to.I am a seeker.I need guidance.
Wow, sounds great Douglas. I visited your site and I bookmarked it for those future posts. I’m sure there are others that will find your walk inspiring. I’m very happy to hear you are a seeker and want guidance. One other blog I enjoy is Viva La Blog. I’d really suggest reading about someone who has been where you are, maybe someone will post a comment with a site they know of like that. Maybe you can be a pioneer for others.
I’ve had a horrible time knowing what to put on my Christian blog and as a result it’s not the shining light I had hoped for. Praying for God to give me some direction!
Personal testimony to what God is doing in your life, it’s that simple. That’s the best way to spread the gospel that I can think of.
I am a Christian, but my blog is not about Christianity! I believe that we as followers of Christ must ask our selves , not necessarily “what would Jesus do?”But what should we do to allow his light to shine through us? There are too many of us “Christians that practice our Christianity only on Sunday, and some times in mid week! We fail to take Him to our work place,we find reasons to do other things on Sunday becites gathering together to felloship in Him! I fear that I am guilty of that myself! But we must never be ashamed of Him, no matter where we may be!
I rejoice in the fact that God sent his son to die for the remission of my sins and yours, for I know that I am a sinner and were it not for the blood of Christ covering my sins, I would be condemed as the wages of sin are death!
I hope I made sence in my posting, because some times I feel as if I speak naught but gibberish!
May God bless you all! Thomas
Thanks for your post, Thomas. I agree that we must allow him to be seen through us. That’s the way Jesus becomes real to others. We are the body.
You’re right, there are plenty of people out there with the “listen to me because I’m right” attitude when it comes to Christian blogs. That’s the sad thing about the Christian community today. There’s so much emphasis on “me” and not nearly enough on “Him.” He must increase, I must decrease. My blog is written in a devotional format, but it’s not outreach oriented (although I suppose it could be used that way). Basically it’s just me thinking about and reflecting on the identity Christ has given me, and the things I learn while studying His Word.
God Bless,
My blog is about my faith and the many struggles I have. My hope when writing my blog is that others can relate and they don’t feel so alone.
Sometimes I comment on the gospel, but what I write is my own. It may or may not help someone, but it helps me. I don’t preach on my blog, I just state how I’m feeling and I try to come to some kind of conclusion.
I have to smile at this post and comments. I’ve been chewing on this issue for the last month, yet somehow it didn’t occur to me to explore this topic and numerous others online, until all of you reminded me to do so. Thank you!
Hi to you all,
The Lord Jesus commanded us to be like minded but unfortunately the church was hijacked nearly two thousand years ago by a guy called Simon Magus - the first Roman Catholic. The poison of Rome polutes nearly all mainstream Chritianity and therby renders it useless for me as a True Believer. I stopped attending ‘church’ seven years ago and I’ve never looked back - Onwards and upwards!! 1 John 2:27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Here is my Blog http://graceforfreedom.blogspot.com/ feel free to join me there and see if we’re like minded.

“Where are the Christian blogs that make mistakes, sometimes give in to temptation, get angry, and admit they aren’t perfect?”
Maybe the answer to the question is right here at this blog. Keep this in mind, that the great apostle Paul who was blinded by the light of Jesus Christ during his conversion admitted that he wasn’t as perfect as Jesus, but he was striving to be perfect given his circumstances of death threats by those who opposed his teaching of the gospel.
Today thank God, we have the opportunity to communicate with each other via the Internet about our Christian faith.
Let us remember what the apostle Peter wrote that we are blessed if we suffer for doing right.
God bless you all.
Let us praise God for this opportunity.
wow your right. I haven’t seen one blog like the type your describing. I bet people would appreciate more one of those sites then they would a preaching site.
thats the problem with christianity now i think yes we need a billy graham some one that will take a stand when the media tell us what we are going to watch, who a christian is, and what are beliefs are we just sit by and let this happen. we are looking for some one thats been through stuff because we are looking for the same message oh its alright Gods going to pull you through no i want some one to say no it is not alright and you better get it right right now because only God knows if we have another day.
